Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.4/100, a mean average of 71.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.7.

“Food for Worms” gets lost in its own sense of noise. Tracks will bleed into each other and after a while it becomes disengaging. For all its competence, most of the tracks lack any strong distinguishing features. This is slightly mitigated by the more ambitious closing three tracks but, it doesn’t fix the problem. That being said, the transitions between tracks themselves are well done, even if the tracks themselves are very similar. “Burning By Design” has a massive tempo increase halfway through that kicks the song into overdrive. It would have greatly benefited the album if there were moments like this. Lastly, “Adderall (End of the Line)” has striking lyrics that touch on the more familial consequences of addiction. “Food for Worms” never turns sour, but neither does it ever become truly sweet.

A nice listen, with some fun heavier moments and interesting themes around friendship.

A great follow-up to Drunk Tank Pink. The record starts off strong (and fast) with Fingers of Steel and Six-Pack, before transitioning into Yankees, a slower-paced track that continues to grow on me more and more. The band also showcases some nice variety with songs like Adderall and Orchid. I think the album starts to slip a bit toward the back-end though, with Different Person and All the People. The exception there being Burning by Design, which is actually my favorite track on the record. Food for Worms probably won't surpass Drunk Tank Pink for me, but it's a highly-enjoyable record (with some of Charlie Steen's best songwriting to date), and a very worthy addition to the bands's catalog.

Favorite Tracks: Fingers of Steel, Yankees, Orchid, and Burning By Design.
