Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

As much as I kind of like this website... I hate people's opinion on music lol. This is so much better than its rating. Oh well... what should I expect from Radiohead fans lmao
This is an another album that goes in "classics that almost pass me by" category. It's always been great company when I'm looking for some background music, but it has never managed to fully capture my attention, 2 or 3 tracks in and I find myself doing something else simultaneously. I consider this more consistent than their previous album -even though there were some tracks that felt a bit too long, plus the skits of Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde have always seemed cleary superior to me- but it doesn't reach the same ridiculously high highs. The production is the star of the album. Jazz based beats might not sound groundbreaking when talking about the 90's but there's enough to differentiate them from the masses and sound unique, fresh and lively, especially combined with the rapping. Their lyrics are not only entertainment-oriented, there's serious stuff, too ("I recall being three when Sunny passed away One of the greatest in my eyes till this very day Too young to understand but understood the ways of good and evil Life and death was in the breath of times fate And God only knows what kept Peggy straight Cuz in the very next year my Aunt Dorothy was the late"). When it comes to picking a favorite, I would go with either Moment In TIme or Y? ("And sometimes in my mind all I wanna do is cry Highly up-set but nothing drops from my eye Those drain out my skin cause I'm pissed from within I see a situation now and all I do is grin People think I'm high but I'm mentally travelling Aging is your times cause life's unraveling While I'm straddlin' walls up this fuckin' mic I hate to be a pilot crashin' in a flight People need to know about this thing called life Cause if you see the light then life's alright").
The beats is what make this album so good for me. Also, the lyrics are way more serious than on Bizarre Ride. I've had a tough time choosing which is better between this one and their debut. Bizarre Ride is a hip hop classic but this album is very under-rated because of how different in style it was. This is an album that got more appraise as time passed and people took the time to listen. I could do without the skits of course and some songs seem to drag on a little bit but that kind of goes with some of the chill kind of vibes I get from this.
Although slightly dated still sounds good
Masterpiece
I prefer this to Bizarre Ride. Dilla's influence cannot be overstated.
