As much as I love Q-Tip and company, the crew at Tribe might be pansies compared to Pharcyde. Sometimes the lyrics here go a bit too far, but production-wise, I can't think of a better non-Kanye rap album. It's as jazzy as jazz-rap could be.

This is probably the most fun hip hop album I've heard. On one record you have songs about prank calls, yo mama jokes, and masturbation. It's a crazy fun ride, and you can tell the MCs are having fun along the way too. The highpoint is Soul Flower, which is the best display of how the MCs play off of each other.
I mostly liked the production, much of it jazzy. The rapping is hit and miss: sometimes too hurried, and I lost interest as they didn't really have much to say (unless you like unfunny comedy with your hip hop). Then sometimes the silliness works, as on "Ya Mama". Musically this album has some great parts, e.g. "On the DL" and "Passing Me By" while I felt they stumbled on the last few tracks. On balance, I still like the album a lot. (Edited)

As much as I love this album, it's not as good as Labcab.
The best "alternative" hip-hop album of the 90s.
