This is one of those legendary "Great Lost Albums" in an artist's career. Legend has it that it took over 30 years for this album to finally be released to the general public. Much of the material could be found in a 2000 release on the French label Art & Soul as "Souvenirs", but it is improved in sound and engineering here, and supplemented by 1962, 1963 & 1972 singles released by Lavette which were never included on available albums. Visions of present day Amy Winehouse can be heard throughout the playing of this album. I wonder how much Winehouse studied the vocal techniques and theatrics/pyrotechniques of Bettye Lavette as a foundation for Winehouse's career. For reference listen to Lavette's "Fortune Teller" and tell me you don't hear Winehouse's own "Rehab". There is much "Soulsonic Force" to be admired on the 22 tracks included here. Released on Rhino Handmade in 2006, the version which I have on hand was re-released on the Real Gone Music label (Cat#: RGM-0338). It is a treasure trove of 70s Soul. Authenticated on discogs.com
