This collection compiles the highlights of the brilliant career of poet/political activist/jazz musician, Gil Scott-Heron as put out in 1990 by Arista Records (Cat: 353 913) European division. The 26 tracks here sort of set the foundation of the 1990s explosion of politically conscious hip hop artists as Scott-Heron's poetry interpolates jazz, pop, funk and a host of other musical styles. In listening to this two disc compilation it is also easy to spot Scott-Heron's influence on contemporary afrocentric/mainstream artists like Prince and Michael Jackson. Artists owe a huge debt of gratitude to the ground-breaking work on display here. Authenticated on discogs.com
