Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.5/100, a mean average of 72.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.3.

A bit of a comeback at the time this is one of KISS’s best albums. It is a darker heavier album that blurs the lines between hard rock and heavy metal. This kicks ass and takes names.

Excellent comeback after a terrible try at releasing a "Concept Album" (88.89)

Great hard rock record. One of KISS' heaviest sounding records. It may also be considered a bit of a return to form since the records prior to this were a bit all over the place. Gene Simmons especially shines on this album. I Love it Loud and War Machine are all time KISS favorites for me.

Key tracks: Rock N' Roll Hell, I Love it Loud, War Machine and Killer

KISS were tucked away in my past and I’ve just recently decided to play one KISS album per day from their first to last. I have certainly moved on from their music but to give credit where it’s due this album is actually better than I remember it. I had rated it a 65 based on memory, knowing that it had a few decent songs on it but I’m giving it a 75 after the re-visit. To my surprise this is actually a cracking album with real metal integrity. Some of Gene’s best stuff is on this album and he hasn’t written a stinker on it for once. The album benefits massively from having less overtly childish sexual innuendo (Keep Me Coming being the exception). Eric Carr is superb and Ace is still there (on the cover art at any rate). It is the only 80s KISS I would definitely spin again and it probably should have a bit more recognition as a hard rock classic.

Under rated at No. 5 on this list. Should be as high as no. 2.

Out of the blue (literally) came a record so unexpectedly good that it is still way too underrated by metal and hard rock fans to this day. An absolute masterpiece. The production is pure power. The best drum recordings ever. And those songs. "Creatures Of The Night" and "War Machine" were powerful in a way that KISS never really were before. In fact, beginning here and for the next two records KISS could be acknowledged as a genuine Heavy Metal band and not just Hard Rock. "Danger" is a drummers delight...they never could have done that with Peter Criss at the drums. All hail the arrival of Eric Carr. The record for metal guys who think they don't like KISS. Just fantastic.

The best studio Kiss album. Creatures of the night, is also the best produced of their albums, it's loud and heavy. The titke track, I love it loud, and, war machine, all great Kiss anthems. This is the only record that Kiss made you could say was a genuine metal LP. Great stuff.

this band really had a momentum. their somehow ridicoulus oufit, the escalating live shows and the edgeless hardrock sound fitted well. this record is offering solid hard rock songs - i guess it's a bit underrated because there are missing some countable hits on it.
