I had this album in my CD player while spending a week back in the late nineties visiting a friend in the San Juan Mountains outside Durango, Colorado. You know the way your heart leaps at the sound of a song that's so good you can hardly contain yourself? That's what I felt listening to "Mountain Girl" while navigating the snow-covered roads down from her place under bright sunny skies. And are there any better opening lines to a song than these: "Does anyone remember / Does anybody care / The days we danced together / With feathers in her hair"? Okay, maybe there are. The point is, this is one hell of an alt-country album.
