Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.8/100, a mean average of 77.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.7.

Quality hip hop. Although it overstays its welcome and the long-winded tracks start to get stale.

Surreal, imaginative, and very tight hip-hop album.

One of the most important hip hop releases of the 2000s. Simply one of hip hop's finest releases.

MF Doom fans may disagree, but this is independent hip-hop at its finest. El-P's production is second to none, Vast Aire provides a look into NY that it is both fantastical and gritty, and Vordul Mega's smooth flow rides these beats perfectly

This album is immense. An absolute powerhouse. Yes, it does meander in places, but for me it's perhaps the perfect headphones album. Despite not being particularly blessed technically, both rappers hold it down supremely with some fantastic imagery and strange non-sequiturs. And production-wise, it's El-P's best.

A lot of the songs go on for too long and it loses steam in the final third, but the fact of the matter is that no other hip-hop album sounds like this. There are traces of its sound on EL-P's "Fantastic Damage" but "The Cold Vein"'s dreamy, cosmic, booming assault stands apart from pretty much everything else.
