Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Great to see The Rural Alberta Advantage sneak into the top 100. Our tastes may differ quite a bit (just 11 albums in common), but I respect your choices.

You're a good Canadian eh. 12 Canuck artists on your list isn't too shabby, not to mention top 2. We have a lot in common (37) so I obviously like a lot of albums on your list. Nice mix of music genres although I suppose my lack of ethusiasm for rap and hip hop is a bit of a negative for me personally. I honestly have no idea what Bran Van 3000 have done other than that Drinking in LA song. Can't argue with a list that has Radiohead, Coldplay, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Modest Mouse, White Stripes and so on.... Great list.
