Even though the liner notes contain a rant against the term "alternative rock," this is an amazing collection of songs from artists who were part of that scene as it emerged. There's tracks from big names like Nirvana, Pavement, and Smashing Pumpkins, the latter contributing one of their all-time best songs, "Glynis." But there's also great songs from less well-known/less celebrated artists, like American Music Club, Urge Overkill, and Straitjacket Fits. I played this non-stop in '93 and enjoy it just as much over 20 years later.
