Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.9/100, a mean average of 69.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.7.

The only Iggy Pop album I really like. The Idiot hasn't aged well for me, and the rest of his non-Stooge albums always seemed like weak sauce. This one is fun and smart--it's got a feminist anthem in it, for crying out loud, and it's sprinkled with lots of obscure oldies rock 'n roll references. You can be listening to a 50s song somewhere and suddenly, hey it's that line from Iggy's Soldier.

The famous story about this album is: the reason it sounds a little open and spacy is the lead guitar track was (mostly) stripped from the recording after Bowie, who produced it, hit on the guitarist's lady, got punched by the guitarist, and took the guitar off the record. Apparently true. So you get these tracks where the keyboard and the rhythm section are prominent, and it sounds cool.

A solid album with some very interesting and fun songs. Highlights for me are Mr. Dynamite, Play it Safe, Low Life, I Need More, Dog Food but all are pretty good.

It's a good new wave / rock album, though it won't go down as one of Iggy's finest for sure. Highlights includes great goofy songs like Dog Food and I need more.
