Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.9/100, a mean average of 71.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.3.

I don't understand why this album isn't rated very highly. Wasn't this kind of a big deal that year? Either way I love it! Who's Gonna Save My Soul is a wonderful and dark tune, Blind Mary always stuck out to me and my wife. Great stuff.

Cee-Lo Green really let's his vocal skills shine here and that pretty much saves the album. I'm a fan of Danger Mouse but overall the production here is pretty tame and it's an album I rarely come back to listening. It's probably best they've gone they're separate ways.

A great album that was pretty much ignored by the public. A more innovative, thoughtful and less commercial record than their previous one. I think it's really good and it's a shame it's overshadowed by "St. Elsewhere".

This album is laughably ignored and underrated in my opinion. It's better on every level than "St. Elsewhere" except it has no big hit like that album did. But it ably covers so much musical and emotional ground. The sad and mournful "Who's Gonna Save my soul" to the sample heavy dance of "Charity Case" to the manic hip hop insanity of "Would Be Killer" to the epic rock pop of "Run" and "Going On" to the playful, naive romance of "Blind Mary" ... Oh my god! In writing this I just changed my mind! This is a 9 as far as I am concerned! Definitely recommend. It's my number 1 of 2008.

If St. Elsewhere was held together by Danger Mouse's beats, then this is where Cee-Lo picks up the ball and runs with it. He's as good as he has ever sounded on this album, and Cee-Lo ends up turning what might have ended up being just another hip-hop album into a soul album. Who's Gonna Save My Soul, Going On, Open Book, Surprise, Blind Mary, and Neighbors are all individual home runs for Green. Some of the deepest tracks I've ever heard him run down, and it's not like he doesn't already have a full resume. Not to say that Danger didn't bring it either. He somehow managed to sample himself during Going On, and the beats for the hit single Run and opener Charity Case are sick. It astounds me how apathetic the general public was to this album. Probably only behind The Raconteurs' Consolers of the Lonely for the best of 2008.
