One of the best albums of all time, a great "capture" of a bombastic live rock and roll concert. Some great guitar work from Ace Frehley and the Peter Criss drum solo is epic. One of my favorite albums!
As someone who feels like the best thing Kiss ever did, musically speaking, involved financing a demo for the band Van Halen - I can't say I hear much (any?) soul or authenticity in most of Kiss's songs, but the energy and power of their performance comes through loud and thanks to studio touching-up, clear... And that counts for something. In fact, it counts for a lot - it's more than I can say for most "live" albums. Hell, most albums - period.
So hey, different strokes for different folks, right..? And to anyone who writes off this album completely: try, if you can, going back into your memory and remembering what first stroked your rock n' roll pleasure center way back when... (Stroke's the word!) If it wasn't Kiss in the '70s, then was it maybe the Dave Clark 5 in the '60s? How 'bout T. Rex? Duran Duran? Bon Jovi? Something young, dumb, and full of... Something "alive," perhaps..? I'm betting on "yes." :)

Kiss were great live... but I'm not sure this album captures it. I suppose it's better than their studio albums, where their showmanship doesn't mask their weaknesses.
It remains the best KISS live album and from my point of view one of the best live albums ever! highly influential for hard rock musicians.
This is still the standard by which all live Rock albums are judged. ALIVE! is a fantastic live album with some truly great hard and heavy Rock and Roll songs. The album is absolutely loaded with great guitar riffs and catchy vocal melodies and played with fire and passion. Great stuff! It's a shame that a lot of people listen to KISS with their eyes and not their ears...
