Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. Damn. If this is as bad as Bob Dylan gets, I think I'm gonna be okay as I get through his other albums.
As I understand it, Columbia Records released this album of Dylan cover outtakes while Dylan was contracted to Asylum Records. It is not an album that Dylan endorsed or had input into. That said, it has a nice novelty value to hear Dylan singing/interpreting a broad range of cover songs ~ but not an album I would recommend to others, other than it's novelty value.

Lily of the west saved this from complete rubbish.
He's doing Elvis pretty well on this one. The arrangement on a fool such as I works.
It's not as bad as people say but it's by no means classic either. It's worth listening to if you're a fan of Dylan's other work though.

Can't see why everyone thinks this is so awful. I think it's a lot better than Down in the Groove.

Yeah, this is pretty bad. It's kinda enjoyable to hear Dylan butcher some covers. In a strange way this is fascinating. But it's only fascinating once.
The album consists of covers of various artists. And the album consists of various tracks that were left off "Self Portrait". Considering how LOOONG and seemingly unconcerned with quality "Self Portrait" was, it's a bad sign for these tracks. I mean, the album was released by his record label as a sort of revenge for his leaving for another record label briefly. What does that tell you?
The opener is pretty good. Some tracks are also pretty humorous ("Mr Bojangles" and "The Ballad of Ira Hayes" and "Big Yellow Taxi") and yeah, that's about it.
Grade: 30/100
