This list showcases my Top 10 personal favorite albums by one of my favorite songwriters and artists, Bob Dylan. The list may grow to 15, 20, 25, etc after a while as I get more familiar with Dylan's back catalog, but this is what it is for the time being. I doubt the majority of users on here are unfamiliar with Dylan's work, but to those who are unfamiliar, here is a taste of the man. The Crown Jewel: The good ol' songs of heartbreak. Dylan connects to the listener in this mostly stripped down acoustic record more so than ever before or ever after. A record of emotion, feeling, love and loss. This is my favorite Bob Dylan album no matter how many times it might make me cry.

Deserving Runner-Up: Blonde on Blonde may not have some of my favorite individual tracks like Highway and BIABH, but it plays through a bit better from start to finish then the aforementioned albums. Bob and his band cover a wide space of musical ground and make a classic double LP.

Worthy Bronze: Some may think putting Highway 3rd on this list is blasphemous. Some days I may even agree with them, but this is what I'm feeling today. Bob Dylan is just one of those artists. Highway has some of Dylan's greatest songs and lyrics and possibly the most iconic song in the catalog, Like A Rolling Stone.

In my opinion, this album is so overshadowed by it's predecessors, Highway 61 and Blonde. It's an all time classic with some of Dylan's best writing and lyrics. The album's final 4 songs might just make for the best closing of an album ever.

Dylan took a huge step forward in his sophomore effort. The Freewheelin' sees Dylan in a more angsty and political state of mind than on his debut. Masters of War gives me chills even after numerous listens and still rings true after over 50 years.

A very dark but rewarding Dylan album. Dylan's 3rd studio album shows more political angst like the record before it, but in a much more harrowing way.

An often overlooked record (I know because I’m guilty of it). However, there is a good feel with a lot of these songs and of course a number of ear-catching lyrical turns. A worthy record and solid effort signaling the oncoming full shift to a country/Americana sound.

My favorite Dylan album since Blood on the Tracks. The instrumentation from Bob and his backing band on these songs is some of the best he's ever had barring Highway 61. Dylan's voice here may certainly be a turn off to some people, but it fits the mood of the music and the stories very nicely.

Not even a half hour long, but it doesn't need to be. Dylan's Nashville Skyline was a gateway for me into the world of the country of that era. Girl From The North Country with Johnny Cash is brilliant, Lay Lady Lay is gorgeous and emotive, and Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You is a classic closer.

Hey there ~ your top 5 are spot on (although some days I might re-arrange the order ~ although BOTT will always be #1 for me). I have been a Bobcat for over 50 years and have done my top Dylan albums chart (65 albums. in fact). My love of Dylan has extended into some custom charts of albums featuring Dylan covers ~ which has been a real blast in researching. Anyway, look forward to seeing how this chart progresses. BTW - bit too early to give the chart a rating. Cheers,

sorry, I made a booboo and actually forgot to put the Bob Dylan Chart back on Public after I dusted it off and updated some comments etc. It is indeed now available for you too look at in all its Mercury-review circa 2013 anti-glory!

im stoked I discovered this. Great start and I agree on your number 1. Nice notes as well. I had a similar chart i was working on for months then ran away from about 4 years ago, and this inspired me to make it public again. You may like it and I'm curious your thoughts.
