The Beach Boys' unserious California delivery works great on their original songs -- but when it comes to these Christmas classics, they sound outright whiny on several tracks. Merry Christmas, Baby is the only song on the album that's up to their usual form.

Very nice collection of Christmas recordings by one of the defining groups of the 1960s. Brian Wilson shows signs of his developing production skills he would later go on to use with such fantastic results on Pet Sounds two years later

If The Beach Boys doesn't get you in a good mood, if Christmas doesn't get you in a good mood, seriously, what does? The original tunes filling up most of the first side are really catchy, joyous and delightfully innocent. The interpretations of traditional Christmas songs on the second side are more orchestrated with a satisfying amount of The Beach Boys' own trademark vocal harmonies as well.
I highly recommend this album as it fits the Christmas season perfectly, especially I recommend whatever extended version that contains all (or most of) their Christmas songs. Some of the stuff they recorded in the 1970s, either completely original or Christmas rewrites, is really exceptional and unique, from the crazy, upbeat "Santa's Got an Airplane" to the haunting Dennis Wilson-sung ballad "Morning Christmas".
Yes, even The Beach Boys celebrate Christmas and surprisingly well!
