Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.8/100, a mean average of 70.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 21.0.

An absolute masterpiece of an album and one of Peter's strongest efforts for sure. Moving away from the classic sound, yes, but still very creative. I love the themes explored on these songs. He always has the best words for his songs. Then on the last couple tracks he just goes crazy and it's like pawn hearts all over again.
Very underrated and among Peter Hamill's best. Not a single song is wasted. Mirror Images has amazing lyrics. Handicap and Equality is a very honest and thoughtful song. The last two tracks are beautiful chaos, kind of like the VDGG song about lighthouse keepers.
I really enjoy this album and it is one of my favorite by Peter Hammill. It doesn't have as much as a classic progressive rock sound as some of his first albums, but is still very experimental in its own way. The lyrics are very strong on tracks like "Handicap and Equality", "Careering" and "Mirror Images". The last two tracks, Mr. X gets tense and Faculty X sound extremely chaotic and kind of cathartic. A very impressive ending to a great album. Not a bad track at all here.

Marks a move slightly away from prog and experimentation and a more solid song base structure for albums. Still has the best of the early PH creativity while introducing the best of the later PH "matter-of-factdeness" song structure that no longer require 19 minutes long epics to get to the point. Not sure if I would call this a canon album but it is definitely among of the best he ever did.
