Hearts in Mind is Nanci Griffith's fifteenth studio album on New Door Records, distributed by Universal.
Hearts in Mind has a mixed mood. The first track Simple Life signals a return to the country-folk of her Philo era, but the rest is a continuation of mid-tempo ballads that she put out on Clock Without Hands. Beautiful is the strongest track penned by Griffith. Heart of Indocine and Old Hanoi harken back to the East Asian themes and Big Ball of War continues and sharpens the anti-war sentiment. But Griffith's originals take a back seat to Julie Gold's terrific Mountain of Sorrow, Tom Kimmel's Angels and LeAnn Etheridge's "Back When Ted Loved Sylvia," a nod to poet Sylvia Plath.
Overall, it has its moments, but this is one of her weakest records.
Not Recommended.
