A stunning example of Nubian music from pioneer Hamza El Din. Well worth seeking out if you're an avid listener of records outside of europe / north america.
One of the first "world music" albums to hit shelves in the western-world, and by God is it brilliant. Hamza El Din plays traditional Nubian music on the Oud and the Tar and it is a wondrous delight, unlike anything I've ever heard. If his vocals are slightly jarring on the first two tracks, that's an extremely small and subjective criticism to make for an album that is so pioneering. Lovers of great music, we must shower "Escalay: The Water Wheel" with endless praise!
