Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. "Wannabe" is their theme song, and a catchy novelty, but not something I would want to listen to very often. "Say You'll Be There" is without a doubt their best song, and one I would actually put in my playlist. I find "2 Become 1" to be kind of annoying. "Love Thing" and "Who Do You Think You Are" are kind of good-ish. Everything else is alright, not bad, just forgettable.

I can see where a lot of people hate everything about the spice girls from the way the group was formed to their pre-teen songs. However, it worked and for about two years they ruled the airwaves. I personally like Wannabe and 2 Become 1 the most.
