Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 16% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.4/100, a mean average of 71.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 19.8.

absolutely one of the best albums of 1968 (and of all time), also in my opinion his most compelling and diverse work, a favourite of mine
best songs: loving time, without expression, season of the witch
Can’t believe I was the first person to list this album. Excellent debut from the almost-lead-singer of Led Zeppelin (bad career move—he turned down Jimmy Page; good career move for LZ—he referred Page to a little-known singer named Robert Plant). Reid applies his great voice and particular style of British blues to “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down),” Eddie Cochran’s “Summertime Blues,” and Donovan’s “Season Of The Witch,” making them his own. But he could write as well, as the mournful blues of “Loving Time” shows. The album’s real highlight is Reid’s beautiful ballad “Erica,” which shows Reid’s range both as a songwriter and as a performer. His voice is just as powerful when it’s delicate as when it’s pushing the decibel rating. He’d follow this up with an even better album, then nearly fall off the map altogether. A real shame.
