Después de la leche que se pegó el amigo Flynn con 'Supercharger' parecía que la cosa era ya imposible de remontar, pero le siguió un notable 'Through the Ashes of Empire' que invitaba al optimismo, y llegó 'The Blackening', uno de esos trabajos de obligada escucha para todo buen amante del Metal. 'The Blackening' es un disco denso, de difícil digestión para el que no esté acostumbrado a álbumes con canciones de larga duración, pues la mayoría de temas superan holgadamente los ocho minutos. Una mezcla perfecta del Thrash que Machine Head sabe practicar con ese Groove tan propio de los noventa bajo un halo moderno que le da ese toque de clásico instantáneo. Criticados hasta el aburrimiento por sus detractores, Machine Head consiguieron crear una obra que perdurará por siempre en el imaginario colectivo como uno de los mejores discos del siglo veintiuno.
One of the greatest metal albums ever recorded. The end of A Farewell To Arms still gives me chills almost ten years later.
