"The iron man" ( pure questo un'opera rock, come "Tommy" ) non avrà le grandi canzoni del disco degli Who del 1969, ma possiede quella concisione che "Tommy" talvolta non ha, è realizzato con una produzione sobria ed oculata e presenta i camei di John Lee Hooker, Nina Simone e degli stessi Who, partecipazioni che una volta tanto fanno la differenza.
