I picked this up midway through 1999 on the strong recommendation of a friend of mine, and what a recommendation it was. This is one of the gems of the alt country genre, a classic in every sense of the word. Chip Robinson's Backsliders were only around for a few years, but it was long enough to make their mark with a very good debut and this amazing piece of music. Chip Robinson's voice just really carries through the emotion of the songs, and combined with the great songwriting, and the stripped down sound...it's good stuff.
There are certain albums that you never tire of, and always think to grab when going on a road trip, and this is one of them. It's really never been put away since I bought it ten years ago.
These are all great songs, but I'd most strongly recommend checking out "Abe Lincoln" "It Rained on Monday" and "Two Candles."
