Melodic punk with heart on the sleeve lyrics that are never anything less than totally honest. This, the Mega's debut album, is them at their most basic. It's pretty much pedal to the floor from the opening 73 second blast of Start, there's very little change of pace and brevity is very much to the fore with the longest song clocking in at 3:26. This is due in part to singer/songwriter and lead guitarist Wiz's punk purist sensibility refusal to indulge in any guitar hero histrionics despite being more capable than most. Their refusal to pull promo singles from their albums till they signed to a major label for their 3rd album is probably to the detriment of Tranzophobia as the standout song from this era, Awkward Kid, was omitted due to being such an obvious single. This Fugazi like refusal to rip their fans off lead to a very loyal live following of which I'm proud to have been a member. Wiz tragically died from a brain haemorrhage in 2006 but his legacy lives on through his music and a charity set up in his name to assist grassroot musicians. I'm actually wearing a Forward 4 Wiz Trust t-shirt with one of his lyrics printed on it as I type this. God Bless you Wiz and God Bless the Mega's, unknown to most but legends to those who know.
