A lot of "misses," but some stronger songs (though nothing memorable). Still, there are fragments of greatness that will appear on their future records. Some songs indicate a good sense of unusual rhyming or tastefulness in the soundscape. Overall, a reasonably good listen, but nothing essential. 8/10.

Best track: "Leave In Silence"

Still an above average album overall, but Leave in Silence is the only track I truly enjoy.
A broken frame has some musical progression for Depeche Mode, but easily the worst writing of their career.

Depeche Mode's second album and first without Vince Clarke is probably their weakest album. It's okay, but understandably uncertain. Acceptable considering the situation but more will certainly be expected the next time round.
Not their best, but Leave in Silence is great.
A lighter sound works well with them. Still this is when they were finding there way in music world. Nothing to be ashamed of here.

Best tracks: Leave in Silence, The Sun & the Rainfall, My Secret Garden.
