Significantly underrated imo. I know many don't like popism lyrics which are all about bittersweet love. But Mariah's vocal performance and the melodies work in tandem to create quite a joyful listen. Underneath the Stars and Melt Away are my favourites, especially in the latter of which she doesn't even show off her high notes, and instead dives deep down for the first verse; that's mesmerising.

Eh, it's okay, but still quite generic. Adding the fantasy remix with ODB would have been a nice surprise, but then that would have affected Mariah's profitability, wouldn't it tommy? It wasn't until 97's great "Butterfly" that she was able to dabble in hip-hop due to increased control over her personal and artistic life. Ah well.
Nothing is outstanding here, but Carey's vocals and lyricism are both on fine form and the production (sort of pioneeringly) makes an attempt to bridge the huge gaps between the pop genre and the hip hop genre, with admirable results. Even the sloshy ballads aren't that bad this time around.

Not her best album but right up there with Butterfly (No.1) Music Box (No.2) and Emancipation Of Mimi (No.4) this I.M.O. is her 3rd best album, I love most of the tracks here except Forever (50's pastiche) that doesn't work, Looking In & I Am Free. The rest of the tracks lifts this album to a score of 85/100.

I think this is easily her best album. Some great songs and some that don't get your attention at all. Pretty good overall though.
Started well. Felt like it could go somewhere quite high. Suffers as it goes on though and despite ending on a high it never quite reaches what 'One Sweet Day' and 'Fantasy' did for me. Cherished moments by the bridge with the picnics. Lemon trees sing and some tears shed. The songs can carry themselves and altogether fairly enjoyable.
