The backstory for this band is a bit of a rabbit hole, but to put it as concisely as possibly, they're from Dayton, OH, started out as an attempted British-style shoegaze band, signed with a "Christian-affiliated" alt-rock label (Tooth & Nail Records, who also signed Starflyer 59), and after making this one shoegaze album, they switched gears and tried to be a commercial rock band — even going as far as to record faithful cover versions of "Kids From America" and "Voices Carry" on those later albums. This shoegaze one is a fairly good album, but burying the vocals and rhythm section behind the guitars (the standard 'gazer mix) doesn't work so well in this case because the guitars aren't recorded appropriately for that. A better (or at least a more "shoegaze-friendly") producer could have made this album a lot better. Not that it's bad, but it could have been a near-classic.
