Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.6/100, a mean average of 72.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.3.

A good compilation from a great vocalist. Her voice is sweet without being cloying and she just sings the song. No histrionics, or grandstanding she delivers these song simply and with intelligent sincerity. The musicians are outstanding and she play a mean fiddle when she wants to. Bluegrass at it's finest.

This is simply Alison Krauss' best album so far (that is, with compilations counted). I just don't quite understand why rock music was so favored over other genres when it comes to the discussion on the greatest, or best albums etc. (I'm a rock fan too, but bluegrass has its highlights too) If people hate R&B, Dance pop or pop music for auto-tuning, and if that's the reason why you like rock, I'd recommend trying this record, which features no repetitive 100% verses at all. Alison Krauss managed the balance between her stable singing and vocal technique with little vibrato. The whole album was sung with modal voice without any vocal fry or falsetto, but the lack of belting doesn't prevent her high notes from being powerful. The strongest singles on this record for me are exactly where it starts and where it ends - Baby Now That I Found You and When You Say Nothing at All, the latter of which is a perfect cover, because she made it her own instead of copying. The song selection was witty, and that's why this became her best to date for me, since even with the best voice and the most professional singing, songs taste different from individuals.
