Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.4/100, a mean average of 69.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 21.9.

Why are the ratings so low? It's a solid album.

Streetlight Manifesto has put out solid ska music for awhile, and this is their first studio album of original music since 2007’s “Somewhere In The Between" and man did they nail it here. I mean they really nailed it. To this point, most everyone you asked would say that Streetlight’s best album is easily “Everything Went Numb", it’s a fantastic album, but I’m saying right now that this album might be as good as “Everything Went Numb". Ska music has a habit of all sounding the same sometimes, fast guitar, fast singing and a brass section, but Streetlight is able to do really well to differentiate the songs and make them all sound unique. It’s still ska, but it’s done really well. And shout out to Streetlight’s brass section, man are they good.
