Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 9% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.0/100, a mean average of 75.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.2.

Another strong album from this band. Not so adventurous but their songwriting and charm is still intact. A good choice for fans of sweet and quirky indie pop.
More light-hearted, breezy songs from what i've dubbed the "poor-man's belle & sebastian". Camera Obscure remain highly consistent with their music, and if you've liked their recent history, then you'll eat this up. This album is pleasant, harmless and family-friendly -- take that as positives or negatives as you choose. For me, i always enjoy a good camera obscura tune when it comes through on all-library shuffle, and there are plenty of good songs on this one.
I think I finally found my favourite album of the year, of course I honestly listened few of this year. but it means this is that much good.
Certainly listening to music that pushes the envelope, that changes things up, is awesome, it can be incredibly interesting. However, sometimes it’s really nice listening to music that is nothing particularly genre-breaking, but just enjoyable to listen to. That’s what Camera Obscura has here. “Desire Lines" is not going to blow you away or anything, but it’s enjoyable to listen to, it’s pleasant. Tracyanne Campbell’s voice is very nice, very similar to Zooey Deschanel’s voice, and when it’s being sung over the instrumental indie pop make up of this band, it sounds great. One of the coolest things, I think, is the featuring of the guitar on this album. Often times in this genre of music, the guitar goes by the wayside, but I can’t get enough of Kenny McKeeve’s sweet reverbed guitar, it sounds great. Overall, this is an enjoyable album, nothing groundbreaking, but still a good album.
