Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.4/100, a mean average of 80.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 7.7.

The first three track and the guitar solo on the last song are as good as classic prog rock can get. Yes, this album was done on the 90's and owes much from Camel or Genesis, but in retrospective I feel it has a style of its own deserves much more listens than it has.

The seventies was the pro era. Interestingly prog died out in the eighties with a few exceptions, Rush, Genesis and Yes kept the fire burning for a little longer but all moved in a more commercial radio friendly direction. When Pendragon arose from the ashes with albums like this it re-kindled that flame. With tracks like 'As Good As Gold', 'Paintbox' and 'Bird Of Paradise' the sound and musical construction was more akin to the seventies prog masters, aka Camel, Caravan, Crimson, Floyd et al. The album is now over twenty years old itself but still sounds fresh, well to me anyway!
