The two compositions on this disc are indispensable. The lengthy drone of bowed upright piano strings (Radulescu's "Sound Icons") on Clepsydra, punctuated as it is by cries of atonal metallic anguish, stirs up the kind of atmosphere only made possible by a stroke of genius or madness. Astray is a similarly challenging piece, incorporating saxophones from the ninth circle of hell.
