Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.4/100, a mean average of 74.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.6.

I got surprised when I first listened to this, I didn't like the style back then but this earned my appreciation very fast

For an old fart like me this is a surprisingly accessible pop album, Well executed and produced for such a young person.

A very well written album that has a lot of fantastic songs on here that starts right from the opening song. To start an album on a song like Tennis Court really sets a precedent for the rest of the release with that song being so phenomenal. It is dark and moody yet also incredibly catchy and beautifully delivered by Lorde. The rest of the album then follows in this style with the likes of Royals, Ribs and Team being the other peaks of the record. The beats on some of the cuts are just brilliant and they really give her style an edge that is unique. This is helped by the production on here which is stellar and sounds so clean making for an easy flowing listen for us that allows us to just enjoy what Lorde is creating for us. However, there are one or two weaker tracks on here nearer the close of the record. Also, I think there is still a bit of musical maturing to be done and that comes to fruition on Melodrama in my opinion. Overall, I think Melodrama is slightly better but it is extremely close and this album is absolutely fantastic and I can see why people would say this is her best record.

Yes, it is that good. It's hard to be sincere AND not ridiculous as a teenager and I will forever envy Lorde for managing it.

Dark, minimalistic, and beautiful. Lorde is just starting out and is already leagues above everyone in her field. A great step on the way to the pop perfection that is Melodrama
