Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 60.7/100, a mean average of 56.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 56.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 20.9.

Many versions of Staind's fourth album, 2003's 14 Shades Of Grey, came with a DVD called Homegrown. It's a very simple 41 minute documentary that follows the band from the beginning of 1998 through 2002. It shows the band in studio (briefly) while recording Dysfunction and their big breakthrough,…

On 14 Shades of Grey, Staind realize they are their most commercially successful when they release dark slow burning melodic plodding confessionals.

Singles So Far Away, Zoe Jane, How About You successfully capitalize on this sound that is similar to the highlights of Break the Cycle.

Price to Play is the best rocker on the album. Layne gets some buzz as an ode to a fellow rocker but the song doesn't do much.

The album's title fits. Grey is essentially a mish mash of colors that create a bland state where no single color is discernible. Most of the murky songs sound like each other and don't particularly stick out in the forefront of a listensers mind.

It is their second best album for the 3 or 4 good songs it has but overall, it doesn't reach the level of Break the Cycle and everything else Staind released is skippable-- minus a single from the debut and a single from Chapter V to follow.
