Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.0/100, a mean average of 66.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 66.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 19.5.

First half is pretty good. Falls off in the second half. More than half the tracks are over 5 minutes, so it's a slow one and just for the right mood. Overall as an album, it's good, but not great.

I always enjoy playing this. There's some very good musicianship on it and some wonderful tunes. A few that have gone under the radar that are some of his strongest material.

I cannot believe its true is catchy - best track, rep of his later substantial pop success; rest is not noteworthy

Best track on this album is "You Can't Hurry Love", a cover of the song by the Supremes, I believe. Phil does a good job with it, but the fact that a cover is the best song on the album doesn't speak too well for the rest.

Phil tries to recreate the dark, sinister mood from face value's opening track with "i don't care anymore", and it mostly works as it's its own powerful tune, but there's a sort of mythos missing. Cover "you don't care anymore" was an interesting choice and played well by phil. "don't let him steal your heart away" is a nice, sad ballad-with-bitterness, not overextended and bland as his 90s ballads became. The rest of the album is a bit soft and instrumental compared to his debut, but still a fine album.
