Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 68.6/100, a mean average of 67.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 19.5.

A very good album although I still prefer Face Value as an entity. Some excellent offerings on here but there's one or two that don't quite hit the mark. Big plus to Hang In Long Enough, That's Just The Way It Is, Paradise, Colours, I Wish It Would Rain Down, Find A Way To My Heart, Father To Son and Heaven.

He's reaching here, with probably his best lyrics in ages. But it's still boring.

At this point, Phil Collins is the master of his pop/rock craft. He brings back his signature, hard-hitting drum sound, Daryl Stuermer and enlists a few different guests this time around, including eric clapton (on affecting "i wish it would rain down"), david crosby (on socially-aware "another day in paradise") and steve winwood (on "all of my life"). The uptempo numbers, like "something happened on the way to heaven" and "hang in long enough" are a lot of fun. "Father to Son" is quite touching in its relatable lyrics. Phil shakes out his jazz mat in "Saturday night, sunday morning". This is my favorite PC album because it's his most "mature" and a culmination of his sound. (Phil ruled 80s pop radio!)
