Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.4/100, a mean average of 72.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.6.

Great album for when your mind wants to drift. It just takes you along for the ride. One thing I've found with Elbow is that when in the mood it's total perfection. If not, not so much. I guess that can be said for most bands though. 'The Blue World' & 'The Take Off and Landing of Everything' being best tracks.

Similar to, build a rocket boys, in the fact that it is lovely and competent, but again no surprises. Elbow need a leftfield turn on their next record. Still a good album though.

Not as instant as "Seldom Seen Kid" or parts of "Build A Rocket, Boys", but give it time.

Stunning album. First Elbow I've purchased on vinyl, and worth every cent. Garvie as a lyric writer is just fantastic. This band is streets ahead of Arcade Fire. Have you actually read their lyrics? Utter junk.

A fabulous album - both lyrically and musically a real pleasure. Real Life (Angel) is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

Its a bit steady, they haven't particularly developed. Its not a bad album, but its not setting my world alight. Maybe needs a few more listens.

Cements their place as having the best post 70s British discography. The lyrics are just beautiful.
