Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.1/100, a mean average of 71.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.2.

Another beautiful Elbow album. The songs are on average much longer than their other records, but they are well worth it. My highlights are My Sad Captains, Colour Fields, The Take Off and Landing of Everything and Fly Boy Blue/Lunette (amazing live - the second half of the song is just beautiful).
I see where people are coming from in saying it's an unsurprising album, but I think if you listen to this alongside their first album, or even their previous couple of records, it's clear how much their music has changed, albeit in subtle ways. I've recently been listening through from their debut, and from that to this album, they've been absolutely solid. Here, they have a more gauzy, electronic texture to everything, which is new. It almost edges into an ambient pop feeling at times. It's hard to know how songs will develop. It's a great album to just sink into and explore its world, even if it's not a huge evolution from where they left off on Build A Rocket Boys!
Great album for when your mind wants to drift. It just takes you along for the ride. One thing I've found with Elbow is that when in the mood it's total perfection. If not, not so much. I guess that can be said for most bands though. 'The Blue World' & 'The Take Off and Landing of Everything' being best tracks.
Similar to, build a rocket boys, in the fact that it is lovely and competent, but again no surprises. Elbow need a leftfield turn on their next record. Still a good album though.
Not as instant as "Seldom Seen Kid" or parts of "Build A Rocket, Boys", but give it time.
Je suis un fan de ce groupe. Cette nouvelle production est au sommet et je ne me lasse pas de son écoute.
Stunning album. First Elbow I've purchased on vinyl, and worth every cent. Garvie as a lyric writer is just fantastic. This band is streets ahead of Arcade Fire. Have you actually read their lyrics? Utter junk.
A fabulous album - both lyrically and musically a real pleasure. Real Life (Angel) is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
