Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.6/100, a mean average of 78.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.5.

This album takes a huge dive in terms of its quality after the first 4 songs and it never really recovers from that point. The first 4 tracks are incredible and they really get you in the mood to listen to Stereolab. They capture that electronic style they are going for perfectly and if this was consistently maintained this would be their greatest record. It is chilled, infectious and has some amazing instrumental and vocal moments on there. The sound is so delicate and it just feels so smooth and joyful to listen to. In my opinion, after this the quality takes a big hit and you go down to average or filler tracks for basically the rest of the record. They don't capture that magic again on this record and you are left with the really drawn out conclusion to this release which gets very boring. Overall, an album that has so much potential but they seem to lose their way half way through and the music becomes really dull and uninteresting.

jazzier chiller and more polarising than Stereolab's other albums, but my personal favorite.

Very unique structure of sound with sunny/chill mood. For me their best album.
