Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.0/100, a mean average of 72.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.5.

A top-to-bottom classic, destined to be rediscovered and revered. Opens with Wild Heart and Rollercoaster, a one-two punch of power pop bangers, Wild Heart and Rollercoaster. I Wanna Get Better and Like A River Runs are great big screamalong knockouts. Every song is quirky, inventive and catchy as hell, with the exception of Track #10, which is a big whiff. Later Bleachers albums all have their charms; this one is still Jack's masterpiece.
I like it, but it's still a fairly forgettable attempt at that elusive blend of indie and pop that's actually tolerable. Some good highlights, some really trite and forgettable lows that I will likely never listen to again.

An offshoot of the band Fun., Bleachers only faintly resembles that band. When he's not helping pen Queen-sized stadium pop for Fun., and not co-writing hits like Taylor Swift's "out of the woods", he's still writing big, wide-eyed pop songs for himself. There's a bombast about the album -- a need to say more than what the lyrics say -- that drive songs like "i wanna get better" and "you're still a mystery". I'd rather have Fun., but this is a good album that's all pop desire and little nuance. (Of course, yoko ono tries to ruin the whole thing near the end, but Bleachers survive.)
This is like a mix of Future Islands, New Order, and The Killers.
I think that meccalecca would like this!
