Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 15% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.3/100, a mean average of 73.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.8.

Not as musically intricate or interesting as their previous album Behaviour, but I still like it. Here they are going for a grander sound with strings, choir, female backing vocals. They add enough guitar, percussion and brass to give the music some substance, and there are some nice tunes, e.g. "One In a Million". It's an enjoyable album in a radio friendly and dancey sort of way. Bringing in a producer might have helped make their sound a bit more cohesive and more compelling instrumentally.

This isn't the Boys' best known album but it has some gems, not least a great version of "Go West".

This album makes me want to "Feel like taking all my clothes off and dancing to the rite of Spring!" Such a great album. The physical version which I possess is a re-release in 2001 that augments the original album with a second disc titled "Further Listening 1992-1994" which features re-mixes of certain main album tracks, demos they worked on for other artists like Tina Turner and Kylie Minogue and a live version of "Girls And Boys" originally performed by Blur. These additional tracks really accentuate the original release and demonstrate the universality of the synth pop genre which Pet Shop Boys regale in. Highly recommend searching this one out!

A good album but certainly not up there with, Please, or, Actually. Go west, is a fun way end to the album but the record lacks that killer track that previous albums had. Good, but not great.

I always felt that Go West was a lazy end to a decent album.

Damn catchy pop music, but nothing really remarkable... Except "Go West" that is.

Not that they had a ton of albums, but this one is the most underrated. They're at the top of their synth-pop game, with danceable beats and snarks on love all-around. Pretty dark in mood and lyrics but all songs are still up-tempo
