Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.0/100, a mean average of 71.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.1.

In 2022, my comment stated 'I wish I could track this down on vinyl'. Well hallelujah to the vinyl resurgence, I now own this album on vinyl. In fact, when it was released in 93, it wasnt released on vinyl, the technology around that time was all about CD's and tapes hadn't yet had the screws on the coffin lid tightened down. It is without doubt a stunning album and in my view this is Hackett at his best. Most charts put Voyage of the Acolyte in first place, yes, that is a good album, but still very much in the shadow of Genesis, with even the cover artwork reminiscent of Nursery Crime and Foxtrot in some ways. I love Genesis in their own right, so no issue with the journey Steve took, but pound for pound, this delivers nothing but quality tracks. This album still sounds fresh today, where Spectral Mornings (my number 2 Hackett album) is starting to sound a little bit dated.
This is such a good album, I should listen to this more often really. When I had a CD player in the car it was played regularly. I would love to track this down on vinyl, if indeed it was ever released on that format. Worth owning for Take These Pearls and Walking Away From Rainbows Alone.
