This must be one of the most underrated albums of all time. Apart from Bob Marley, I had never been that struck on reggae before I bought this album. 'Signing off' is like nothing else in my collection. There is a lot of saxophone on it, which I've not really heard on other reggae records. The production is much better than any other reggae I've heard, and the lyrics are stronger and more political than UB40's later work. There was even a bonus 3 track 12 inch single with the vinyl record. (Edited)

Ok it's ub40 but it's not the pop act version. Yes ok they went rubbish but this is great stuff.

Brilliant debut album by UB40, when they still had an edge. It really has got that streetwise feel to it. Great songs too, especially, food for thought, Tyler, and, burden of shame. Great stuff, how's your job search going?

Listening again to this, it is still enjoyable but it does seem long, bit filler and the production is too thin. The remastered version should have rectified that, not enough in the bottom end really. I do like the overall sound but the lack of kick and bass doesn't propel the instrumentals like they should when there's not the song to cover up the flaw. Still good though and light years better than later stuff.

Often overlooked because of their later stuff, this is a top album.
