"Opening Night" (de mis piezas de música concreta favoritas) es una concentrada opus magnum de inmensa belleza e intensidad; una especie de "Satz: Ebene" contemporánea -obviando las claras diferencias, aunque, (yendo más lejos aún) quizás sea más apropiado ubicarla como una especie de respuesta moderna y fortuita a esta (digámosle contraparte), que si bien mucho más desatada, igual de profundamente emotiva.
"Foramen Magnum", en cambio, es una visión paisajística mucho menos romántica. Un horizonte áspero y punzante, con momentos cuya fría sinceridad se extrema en tragedia. En ella se esconden también otros momentos repletos de una gran oscuridad casi doliente, que, sin dejar de ser fríos, se retan a desafiar la falta de esperanza.
Si "Opening Night" forma una especie de último largo aliento, "Foramen Magnum" se coloca entonces como el único cauce capaz de desenmbocar en tal agonía embelesadadora.
Solo contadas veces -al menos estas últimas décadas-, se han visto ejemplos «en específico, de música concreta y electroacústica» con similares sensibilidades intrínsecas; tan verdaderamente capaces de concertar y transmitir una humanidad trascendental sin recubrirse con efectismos ni abusar de trucos estéticos.
Bravo, Olivia Block, por crear algo que, sin ninguna duda, perdurará en el cuerpo de la historia humana.
