Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 24% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.7/100, a mean average of 73.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.0.

Didn't appreciate this fully when it came out. Probably cos it was a return to the sound of His'n'Hers and Different Class after This Is Hardcore but it doesn't reach the same heights of those classics. It still is a good album though
I'm afraid this sounds like a very tired affort to my ears, and perhaps no surprise that the band didn't last much longer.
Pulp's final album tends to be overlooked, probably because it wasn't released during the Brit pop era, or maybe because it wasn't that successful. Having said that, we love life, is a good record. Some fine songs here in, the night that Minnie Timperley died, roadkill, and, sunrise, which are all excellent. Not their best then, but certainly underrated.
Welcome return to form, after the overly long and somewhat less engaging This Is Hardcore. One of the few 'final' albums to be any cop.
This was an unusual one. What might be the last from Pulp and it feels like they went out with a whimper. All that was theatrical, bombast and magnificent about their previous work is gone and replaced by much more mysterious narratives and middle of the road arrangements. It isn't an engaging listen. That said, they still can actually write the songs and music to go with them. 'The Trees' is cautionary tale set steady strings and trembling guitars. 'The Birds in Your Garden' is one of the best here because it actually feels like it's actually rising off the ground. Light and airy. Makes a great change from the ones about being in a laboratory or whispering about something which isn't revenge. It's just too uncomfortable in places. It sounds like the singers personality has taken over the place and the rest of the band gone. It genuinely sounds like a solo album. That bearded slightly off putting fella is dancing on the lawn, serenading the motion sensor night lights and all I want to do is pull the curtains. I'm done.
