Sonically this 4 CD box with Eddie Cochran is really a pleasure. The digital remastering is really successful. This becomes evident at the earliest numbers, many Cochran compilations has been somewhat uneven, aurally, this is not the case on this release.
By far most of what Cochran recorded in his short life is included on this box; individual tracks are also available here for the first time.
Chronology clearly shows an evolution of Cochran's music which gradually becomes more personal and interesting. There is for me no doubt that he only had just begun to flourish at his untimely death.
Besides the well-known rock hits such as "C'mon Everybody", "Summertime Blues" and "Jeannie, Jeannie, Jeannie", Cochran recorded more soulful and melodic songs like "I Remember" and "Little Angel" - both some of my Cochran favorites. There is also evidence that Cochran had wanted to explore the American folk tradition - listen to tracks like "The Boll Weevil" and "Cut Across" Shorty "
The music is reallyon top, and it is somewhat a pity that so little effort and time has been spent to make a proper booklet with information about music and its creation. The sparse notes are not better than the average low-price collection that can be found at most gas-stations.
But because music is so good - still five stars!
