This is seriously the most underrated album I've ever seen. Why is that so granted that OK Computer, Dark Side of the Moon and Is This It are on top 100, and when this one is 300-something-th it's a "good" rank?
This is probably the most Phoenix-y album, the most traditional but still experimental, the most dance but still relax, the most Pop but still Rock. And the lyrics, which for me describes perfectly the idea of falling in love (maybe except for Fences and Countdown). And as a whole it's so perfect: You start at dancing, with Lisztomania and 1901, and than relaxing in the album's embracing way with Fences and Love Like A Sunset, and than the emotions storm with Lasso and Rome. And than, for an epic ending, it embraces you again with Countdown, Girlfriend and Armistice.
And another thing that is pretty unique to Phoenix: The final words, all over their discography: "What matter is the love that you give" in United, "Sooner or later I'll change my whole perspective, I'll be recruited by someone" in Alphabetical, "I thought I've heard a lie, I thought I've heard a 'liar'" in INBLT. And this time: "For lovers in a rush, for lovers always". And this is also coming to perfection in Bankrupt!, but it happens just later.
But eh, they're my favorite band, they're the ones that opened to me the world of music, maybe I'm just obsessive.

A landmark album for my change in taste of music, and for that maybe it gets more credit in my book. I hate comparing anyone to anyone, but I like to think of Phoenix as what Of Montreal would sound like if they actually sounded good. Following It's Never Been Like That, this album shows how Phoenix truly found their special indie-pop sound after their more alternative rock origins.

Euro pop meets indie rock. Phoenix had been working on perfecting this sound for years and hit it just right with this album. The first two tracks are absolute classics, while Love Like a Sunset, Rome and Armistice are great as well.

Light and enjoyable. A very fun and positive listen that shows that Phoenix is way more then just another indie pop band. Fences and Girlfriend are the highlights, while Lisztomania is an absolute classic that will definitely go down in the books as one of pop's great masterpieces.
