I was looking back at some of my ratings out of curiosity, and I saw I had this rated very high, so I listened again...and yeah, I was right, this is amazing.

In a way, this is high level "exotica" in the vein of Martin Denny or maybe Cal Tjader...but that's not a bad thing at all, exotica is like any other kind of music--the 5 percent that's good is REALLY good. This is touristy music, but if you're never a tourist, that just means you never leave home. It's from a time when British and American musicians and listeners alike were reveling in the sounds of other cultures, and it's a stone cold groove. The compositions are fantastic, it swings like crazy, but it also has that meditative one-chord drone quality...swinging drone music. The recording is great, the sound quality is crystal clear and in your face. An absolute gem.
