Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 6% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.6/100, a mean average of 73.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.6.

Aside from the two top ten hits and the absolute classic No.1, this album is full of great songs that flow seemlessly from beginning to end. Love their version of Seven Days Too Long, a northern favourite.

An absolutely fantastic album where soul music is in a perfect marriage with a very punky atmosphere. Geno is the best example of that: it's rawkish but it's fine soul music through and through. And so is the rest of the album.

Really good soul music, not a single bad track. Entire album flows really nicely and doesn't have any filler whatsoever.
Standout tracks: "Burn It Down,"Tell Me When My Light Turns Green,"Geno," "Keep It"

Amazing that a band that most Americans would think of as a one-hit wonder would have three albums in the 1,001 Albums book. Having listened to this album, I'm not entirely sure why.

More people should know about this album. There's some great stuff on it. Dexys shouldn't just be known for Come on Eileen.
Favourite songs: Geno, Keep It, Seven Days Too Long

Excellent soul album with hints of pop, jazz, and folk. Excellent songs, obviously, Geno, is a standout, but there is plenty of good songs here. Kevin Rowland is a brilliant songwriter but he never wrote that much and that's probably why he is underrated. Still, this is a fine debut record from a great artist.
