A longtime friend whose musical taste I greatly respect first recommended this album to me, and although I liked it upon first listen, it didn't quite grab me enough to merit as many listens as it probably deserved. What I will say is that these are solidly written, competently performed Christianity-tinged folk songs. Ledges is not necessarily a contemporary Christian record, but one concerned with the vagaries of faith in a world where disappointment and despair are as common and unshakeable as ever. “The Great Separator comes for me,” Gundersen sings on “Separator,” and it’s hard to tell if he thinks that’s a good thing or a bad thing. That ambiguity is compelling in some ways, but also sometimes leave me wanting Gundersen to take a more coherent position.

A lot of hard work happens in the background to keep BEA running, and it's especially difficult to do this when we can't pay our hosting fees :(
